Distributed content development

Whilst e-learning content is being contributed to the IVIMEDS LOR from partner schools a wealth of new content is being developed across the partnership.  A distributed model of content development has been adopted which sees the IVIMEDS core development team working closely with subject experts in partner schools.  Individual schools are taking the lead in different subject areas including body systems and cross cutting themes.

Seed Grants

Grants were initially awarded to 5 partner schools, followed by an additional 3 grants, to support the development of e-learning content. The new content will be embedded in the study guides of existing or new virtual patients in 7 of the 8 projects. The other project, which is featured in this web posting, creates a stand-alone module for training students in team communication.

In subsequent web postings, the other 7 projects will be featured. They are:

  • Queen's University Belfast—diseases of the eye
  • University of Queensland—skin diseases
  • University of Southampton—mental health problems
  • University of Warwick—diseases of the reproductive system
  • Trinity College Dublin—surgical GI problems
  • University of Tampere—infectious disease problems
  • University of Western Australia—oncology and related issues in professionalism

This web posting showcases the project undertaking by the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM). The project developed a guided learning module that instructs students how to evaluate the effectiveness of health care teams using the SimCom-T model. Video clips of simulated team interactions exhibiting both good and bad performance are embedded into the learning module for students to review and evaluate using the SimCom-T model.
